Our Board & StaffSCascap's board is comprised of seven volunteer members who have a wide range of professional experience in the areas of law, real estate development, financial management and human services delivery. The Board provides strategic planning and direction for the organization in conjunction with the executive staff. All board members have given generously of their time to ensure Cascap's continuing success in pursuit of its mission.  Several of the directors have served on the board for well over ten years and Cascap has benefited greatly from this continuity.


Shawn Luther, ChairMr. Shawn Luther/Chair

Shawn Luther joined Cascap's Board of Directors in June 2003. Mr. Luther is a Staff Attorney with Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the nation's largest community development intermediary. In that capacity, he is responsible for closing predevelopment, acquisition and construction financing to community development corporations, providing technical assistance to LISC's local program offices and supporting LISC's New Markets Tax Credit efforts. His previous experience has included counseling underwriters and issuers of tax-exempt, single- and multi-family housing bonds, as well as parties to corporate lending transactions.

Mr. Luther is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the State of University of New York at Buffalo School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the States of Massachusetts and New York.


Ted McKie, Board

Mr. McKie joined Cascap's Board of Directors in December of 2002. He is currently the Managing Partner for TCM Ventures, a consulting and investment firm specializing in value creation and migration strategy, IT services management and the improvement of the business value of IT. Previous professional experience includes thirty years senior management positions in the global Services groups of Hewlett Packard, Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Mr.McKie brings to Cascap a wealth of management, information technology and business strategy experience. He holds a Master of Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is thrilled to be working with Cascap and as a Cambridge resident, is committed to contributing in a meaningful way to his community.


Tony LoftisMr. Tony Loftis/Clerk

With 10 years experience in high tech public relations, marketing and community relations, Mr. Loftis has overseen and run a wide range of public relations and industry analyst programs. He is currently a Team Lead at the Davies Murphy Group, where he works a full range of communications and marketing programs for both emerging companies and household brands. Mr. Loftis got his start in public relations at Lois Paul and Partners.

Prior to entering the high tech PR agency world, Mr. Loftis worked in the related field of community relations. In this capacity he developed community relations plans for a multi-million dollar wastewater treatment program that affected several hundred thousand residents and commuters. On that project he served as the first point of contact for the community's questions and needs, and also designed and developed content for the project's Web site.

Mr Loftis has a BA from Tufts University and a graduate certificate in public relations from Emerson College. He is a resident of the City of Somerville, MA.


Tom Sadtler, Board MemberMr. Thomas M. Sadtler, MSW, MBA/Treasurer

Mr. Sadtler joined the Cascap Board in 1973, while working as an aftercare worker for people getting out of the Cambridge Somerville Unit at the Westborough State Hospital. After graduation from Boston College of Social Work, Mr. Sadtler became director of Ambulatory Mental Health Services for the Cambridge Hospital department of Psychiatry.

In 1978, he left Cambridge Hospital to attend the MBA program at Harvard Business School. Since then, he has worked at Atex, Inc, an Eastman Kodak company and Marshall Bartlett, Inc., as Director of Customer Services Marketing for a $4 billion division of Hewlett-Packard Company and as the Associate Director of Marketing and Sponsorship Development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Currently, Mr. Sadtler is the Vice President for Marketing at CA, Inc.


Pat Giulino, Board MemberMs. Patricia U. Giulino, LICSW/Member
Committee assignment: Chair, Program Committee; Member, Personnel Committee

Ms. Giulino has been a Board member of Cascap since 1977. Ms. Giulino is a graduate of Smith College and holds a Master's Degree in Social Work. At present she is a clinical social worker at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Prior experience has included work as a mental health coordinator for the AIDS ACTION Committee in Boston. She has also been employed as a clinical social worker at Carney Hospital, Dorchester, Massachusetts, and the Massachusetts Treatment Center, M.C.I. Bridgewater. Ms. Giulino also has her own private practice specializing in psychotherapy for adults and couples.

Her professional affiliations include: membership in the National Association of Social Workers, and The Boston AIDS Consortium Mental Health Task Force.


Hilma Unterberger, Board MemberMs. Hilma Unterberger, MA/Member
Committee assignment: Member, Personnel and Program Committees

Ms. Unterberger, before her retirement, served as Assistant Director at the Cambridge-Somerville Mental Health Center, Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. Her long history of service in the mental health field has included positions as a Clinical Intern and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at Massachusetts Mental Health Center and Boston State Hospital; assistant Supervisor in Education, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission; and Alcoholism Coordinator at the Division of Alcoholism, Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Ms. Unterberger has been an instructor at the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry at Cambridge Hospital, and at the Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA. Since retiring, Ms. Unterberger has served on the Boards of Cambridge Camping Assn., the Cambridge YWCA, and the Cambridge Guidance Center, Inc.

Ms. Unterberger has been a member of the Cascap, Inc. board since 1990.ege. He is a resident of the City of Somerville, MA.


Robert Van EmberghMr. Robert Van Emburgh /Member
Committee assignment: Member, Development Committee

Cascap extends a warm welcome to Robert Van Emburgh. Mr. Van Emburgh officially joined the Board in June, 2008. He is currently a Business Development Executive with the management consulting firm Wellesley Hills Group. Mr. Van Emburgh brings over 30 years of sales, marketing and development experience to Cascap. He has held management positions with Digital Equipment Corporation, high tech start-ups and in the consumer products industry. He has a BS in business from Rutgers University. Mr. Van Emburgh is excited to bring business development skills to Cascap looks forward to contributing to the growth of Cascap.

Chief Executive Officer

Michael Haran has been working with Cascap for its entire 35 year life. Initially Michael was an outreach worker who piloted the idea of the Elderly Congregate Housing program. Michael has been a tireless advocate for the homeless, elderly,disabled and chronically mentally ill for his whole professional life. When Cascap merged and acquired ECHO, Michael was selected by the Board of Directors to lead Cascap forward.
